Black History Month Essay Contest

February 20, 2016 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Free
The winner of last year's essay contest

This educational project encourages local students to learn about the great reformers who are buried in their neighborhood and to honor their contributions by sharing their stories with the wider community. The students practice their writing and public speaking skills and have the chance to win prizes.

This year, the subject of the contest was Robert Purvis, a great black leader of the Underground Railroad in Philadelphia. We invite the community to a public presentation of the winning essays, a keynote speech by a local leader, refreshments, and of course prizes!
