HFH Urban Farmers

Jorge Diaz and Tito Caba, 28, have been friends since 4th grade at BVM Visitation School in Kensington. Jorge is now a software developer at a tech-consulting firm and Tito a bespoke tailor who is starting a clothing business.  When COVID hit, both men decided they wanted to learn to grow their own food, to be outside, and eat and live in a more healthy, sustainable way. Jorge is an HFH board member and recruited Tito to the garden team.

Tito Caba & Jorge Diaz

They work with Denis Lucey, 75, master gardener, building raised beds, planting and replanting,
caring for the plants in all three seasons, harvesting, operating the farm stand. Tito rides his bike
between the four gardens, carrying tools and produce on his rack.

Tito is interested in medicinal herbs and traditional Dominican healing. He speaks to neighbors
who come weekly to the farm stand to consult and get their mint and sage and lemon balm.
Jorge leaves his home-office daily to check on the Auburn St. garden and after work he waters
with hose from Hands for Hope next door.

The team is still busy with fall projects: setting up cold frames, cleaning up gardens for winter.
Tito will open the historic site Saturdays for history visitors and neighbors to relax outside

Our garden volunteers are still working away during the winter. Stop by 12-3 on Saturdays – let us know you’re coming! Call the Fairhill Offices for details.
