Join us for a summer of leadership, urban gardening & community activism.
Participants work in four gardens and learn about organic farming, nutrition, and teamwork. They learn to plant, grow and harvest, run a weekly produce distribution, and serve as mentors to younger gardeners. They also celebrate and amplify Fairhill’s long history of abolitionists, activists, and change-makers.

Open to students entering 6th – 12th grade. The group meets Tuesdays and Thursdays June 17th to Thursday, August 7th from 10 a.m.-1p.m. Lunch & a stipend are provided, along with field trips and guest visitors.

“Because of Historic Fair Hill, I have been able to connect with people throughout the neighborhood I never would have even talked to. I find myself constantly enjoying every part of being in the internship through the years, this internship is more than just a program its a lifestyle.” – Intern
“I’m proud of the work I did with the pest control, taking care of the trees and learning about the burial ground and then giving a tour.” – Intern

“After volunteering with Historic Fair Hill since I was 11 years old, I have developed a special attachment with my community and seeing it as a place that deserves genial loving care. Starting off as a Saturday play zone to becoming a summer job, Fairhill and its staff have shown me how important the earth is. I have learned to plant, make meals with the vegetables we’ve grown in the garden, and even how to perform CPR. Most importantly, I have learned how important my role is in being the change I need to be to my community.” – Former Intern
“Balancing schedules, learning to work with their hands/bodies, appreciating nature, learning about the history of where they grew up. All of these things are grounding and stabilizing for their lifetimes!” – Parent
