Historic Fair Hill has welcomed two new Trustees to our Board of Directors this year. We are grateful to all of our board members for their service to our community and look forward to working together with Willie and Rebecca.
Willie Colón came to Historic Fair Hill when he volunteered to undertake a fundraising feasibility study for our capital campaign. Originally from New York City, Willie has lived in the Philadelphia area since the mid-1990s. His community work in the city includes serving as a volunteer buddy with ActionAIDS, working with residents in the Norris Square neighborhood to stem the tide of urban gentrification and abuse of eminent domain laws, and helping to create a community of Latin American adult learners in South Philadelphia. He has a background in journalism, but for the past seven years, he has worked as a fundraiser for a Quaker organization based in Center City. He’s happy that his writing and fundraising skills can help strengthen grassroots, community-based efforts in the city and beyond.
Rebecca Romero was born and raised in North Philadelphia, where she still resides. Having attended Julia de Burgos Elementary as a child, she fondly remembers visiting the school gardens and helping to get the library ready to re-open. Rebecca became involved with Historic Fair Hill as a regular volunteer and then Youth Leader starting in 2020. She is a graduate of West Chester University and is currently working as an Associate Teacher at a daycare in West Philly. She is a voracious reader and is also pursing her passion of creative writing, having published her first collection of poetry in 2018.
