Volunteer Programs

We’re always looking for more people to help in our community programs. These programs are our mission in action. Take a look at our Volunteer Opportunities listed below. Each will have their own application process, so please follow the instructions listed next to the opportunity. If you have any questions, email us at the button below.

Some opportunities will require background clearances and/or training before you begin. Our staff will make arrangements with you to meet all requirements.

Be a Reading Buddy

Our reading buddies are paired with local classrooms where they provide one-on-one reading support to young students. This is an ongoing commitment; we will provide training, guidance, help with getting state clearances, carpools, and good fellowship.

Garden with Us

Come help and learn in the grounds and gardens. Volunteer hours are from 10am-3pm every Saturday.

Friends and neighbors get to know each other as we work in the grounds and satellite gardens.

We are also able to offer some gardening opportunities during the week.

Help in the school libraries

The School District of Philadelphia does not currently fund school libraries.

Volunteer with us to help ensure students our partner schools develop a love of reading and have access to high quality books.  Email us to find out about being a library helper.

Help Plant Trees in Fairhill

Trees give us shade and cooling. They give us beauty, and a feeling of calm. They capture carbon. Our neighborhood has the fewest trees of any in the city.

Our Fairhill Tree Tenders group (of PHS) has planted 130 street trees since 2012.

Help with An Event

We host Family Fun Days each weekend when the weather is warm, as well as a free Weekly Farm Stand. There are Community Clean Up Days on the 3rd Saturday of the Month and we host an annual Reading Festival and Health & Wellness Festival.

We can always use extra hands.

JOIN FAIRHILL NEIGHBORS

Join Fairhill Neighbors for first Monday meetings 5pm – 6 pm by Zoom. Join actions such as voter registration, education, and turnout; block clean ups; IPM; storm drain marking; trash pickup, integrated pest management, bandit sign removal. Email Towanda for more information.

Host a book Drive

Good books help make strong readers. You can collect books with your religious congregation, corporate service group, resident association.

We are happy to work with you to make sure our kids get high quality books that they deserve. Contact us for a book list and suggestions for running your drive.
