Thank you!

On behalf of all of us, I’d like to thank everyone who attended, donated to, and supported our Spring Celebration. Close to 100 friends and neighbors gathered at Taller Puertorriqueño to honor our history and celebrate our future. We were also able to meet our fundraising goal, so that we can continue to inspire the next generation of changemakers.

Tito (Green Space Director) and Martina (Literacy Director) shared about their partnership and the ways they are working to integrate joy, literacy, and learning into all of our programs. They spoke of the year round youth internship, new community partnerships, author visits, and family fun activities. They both touched on the ways that our work is impacting children and their families and the ways they envision that impact growing in the years to come. We were honored to have so many of our incredible staff members with us, so that we could all thank them for their work.

Kim Hanley, a performer from the American Historical Theatre, spoke with us as Lucretia Mott. She grounded us in the words of this great thinker, abolitionist, and activist, reminding us where our mission emanates from. In addition to reminding us all about the importance of Quaker beliefs which continue to inform our programming, we heard her speak about her upbringing and how her interactions with those around her compelled her to shine a light on injustice. Our community based approach to literacy, food justice, and access to green spaces came alive as Lucretia spoke about her convictions to take action and pave the way for a brighter future.

It was a wonderful evening to connect with friends and neighbors, and it felt particularly special to have our young interns and their families be a part of the festivities. We were also able to support Taller’s Julia de Burgos Bookstore with many purchase being made, including 25 beautiful titles to add to our library collections. We look forward to continuing this partnership and you can now make book donations through our Bookshop link, which will also support this local gem.

Thank you so much for being a part of our story and believing in our community. We look forward to seeing many of you again over the summer as you visit the grounds for peaceful meditation, participate in a Family Fun day, or garden with us.
